Super TestCar reviews - Subaru - Liberty - B4 sedanSubaru modelsOverviewThe B4 sedan was to the Mk3 Liberty range what the WRX is to the Impreza12 Apr 2002 THE arrival of the Liberty B4 has given Subaru a true performance model to add to its much-lauded Liberty range. Until the B4 joined the local line-up, it was the 2.5-litre RX manual that wore the sports tag amongst Libertys. But any fair-dinkum link between the Liberty and performance has been missing since the RS Turbo departed and of late it has been the Impreza WRX that people associate with sports car performance when they think of Subaru. Now you can have the best of both worlds as the B4 offers genuine performance without skimping on equipment or refinement. For the money, it leaves everything else in its wake. The RS Turbo was part of Subaru's line-up in the early 1990s and laid the foundations for the four-wheel drive/turbo/WRX craze that swept all before it in the latter part of the decade. An RSK-B4 model - going by its Japan-market name - was available in the second generation Liberty range, which ran from 1994 to 1998. But it was never sold in Australia due to a weak exchange rate that would have seen the car priced in excess of $70,000. |
