Super TestCar reviews - Peugeot - 405 - SRDT 4-dr wagonPeugeot modelsOverview25 Oct 1995 PEUGEOT has been building diesels for decades. It's also been a wonder at making wagons that work since the post-war years, so the two together equal a formidable package. And the 405 SRDT doesn't disappoint. In contrast to the overpriced and underperforming D60 405 wagon from 1989 to 1991, the nearly identical but thoroughly re-engineered turbo-diesel D70 versions proved to be an economical, torquey and durable grand tourer with excellent load-lugging abilities. This may explain the model's popularity in rural Australia. The D80 406 wagon that replaced it was considerably more expensive and refined, but somehow lacked the grace and charm of its predecessor...
