Super TestCar reviews - Nissan - Murano - rangeNissan modelsOverviewNissan's new Murano SUV offers performance, style and luxury at a competitive price19 Aug 2005 Nissan has a firm grasp of the large four-wheel drive and compact sports utility vehicle segments with the impressive go-anywhere Patrol and X-Trail off-roader. And, like just about every car-maker out there today, it has been hungering for something that fits the "crossover" mould - a vehicle with modest off-road ability, room for five plus luggage and some seriously practical on-road comfort and performance, plus a commanding driving position. The arrival of the new V6 Murano - named after the Italian island renowned for its glassware - is just what the marketing department ordered. At 4770mm long and 1880mm wide, it’s shy of the all-conquering Ford Territory (4856mm and 1898mm) but its strength is the combination of the superb 3.5-litre V6 it shares with the Maxima and 350Z, and a continuously variable transmission with a six-speed mode. Will it be enough to win converts? We think so - particularly given its $51,990 starting price.
