Engine choices are a 3.9-litre six or a 5.0-litre V8. NCII upgrades in 1992 improved suspension, six-cylinder engine performance and interior comfort to be more competitive with the Statesman. HOLDEN STATESMAN 4D SEDAN (1991-1994) THE Holden Statesman is similar to Fairlane in equipment level and interior space. The 3.8-litre, fuel-injected V6 engine produces 127kW. Independent rear suspension gives the Statesman a ride and handling advantage over Fairlane. TOYOTA CRESSIDA 4D SEDAN (1988-1993) SIMILAR interior space to Mazda's 929. Bland looks hide a strong in-line six-cylinder, 142kW engine and four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment list is comprehensive except for air-conditioning, which was surprisingly optional. Ride, handling and brakes are very competent. MAZDA 929 4D HARDTOP (1990-1991) MAZDA 929 V6i is well equipped and has comfortable accommodation for five people. The 3.0-litre V6 engine has a power output of 118kW or 140kW from DOHC version. All-independent suspension provides a comfortable ride and competent handling.
