Super TestCar reviews - Mitsubishi - Triton - 2.4 utility rangeMitsubishi modelsOverviewWith a startling base price, Mitsu's new entry-level Tritons make a big impression12 Apr 2007 By CHRIS HARRIS MITSUBISHI needs every winner it can get its hands on, and it certainly has one with the new entry-level GL cab-chassis version of the already popular ML-series Triton one-tonner launched here last year. It is powered by a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder engine developing 94kW of power and 194Nm of torque, driving through the rear wheels only. Anyone with an ABN number – which includes the vast majority of Triton buyers – can enjoy an impressive level of comfort, features and dynamics for as little as $17,990. With a warranty of five years on the vehicle and 10 years on the drivetrain, plus roadside assistance, it’s more good news for the triple-diamond company. By the time 2006 rolled around it was looking too narrow-waisted compared with its contemporaries from Toyota, Holden and Nissan, and was starting to feel pretty agricultural in the way it drove and the passenger comfort it offered. Although the MK series was replaced by the all-new ML range in July 2006, bringing with it much more modern looks and dynamics, the 2.4-litre rear-drive variant continued to be available until December. |
