HOLDEN'S Jackaroo, in its current incarnation, has always been recognised as a particularly competent on-road performer for a big four-wheel drive. Recent upgrades have made the off-road Holden better, the most important change being the availability of an automatic transmission with the rugged turbo-diesel. It is like having your cake and eating it too. There is the solid, workhorse nature of a diesel engine, coupled to the smooth, easy shifting of a state-of-the-art four-speed automatic gearbox.

Holden Jackaroo
Released: August 1985
Ended: April 1992
Family Tree: JackarooTHE Isuzu-based Holden Jackaroo was a popular 1980s 4WD wagon but was quickly overtaken by the more experienced 4WD-mongers Toyota and Nissan. Quite cheap initially and offering good interior space, the Jackaroo was a "proper" dual-range 4WD but lacked the necessary ruggedness.
