FORD'S hardworking Transit range has been a hallmark of the Blue Oval’s commercial vehicle family for more than 30 years. It essentially created the modern van, introducing car-like features into a carry-all machine. Over the last three decades, Transit vans have become a feature in everyday life – and certainly the top choice for posties, shifting house and even young bands on the pub scene. Ford has updated its Transit range with three all-new variants – a pair of entry-level front-wheel drives and a heavy-duty seven-seat dual-cab cab-chassis. The new Transit family also features fresh styling, updated interiors and increased safety.

Family Tree: TransitFord Australia tackled the van market with the new-age Transit back in 1994 with only one model – a conventional van. It carried this through with the VF range until it added a 12-seat bus in 1999. With the arrival of the now superseded VH range, introduced in January 2001, Ford built on the success of the Transit’s reputation and had increased the model line-up to cover all bases: vans in various shapes and sizes, a bus and a cab-chassis. There were three four-cylinder engines available: a 103kW 2.3-litre petrol, an 88kW turbo-diesel and a 66kW turbo-diesel.
