Super TestCar reviews - Ford - Telstar - GLX sedanFord modelsUsed Rivals7 May 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY 4D SEDAN (1993-1997) IF the Telstar is not big enough, try the Camry. Under the bland exterior is a very competent car. Its interior space almost matches the Magna with similar equipment to the Telstar. The 2.2- litre, twin cam, four-cylinder engine with 95kW is a good compromise between acceleration and fuel economy. MITSUBISHI MAGNA 4D SEDAN (1991-1994) THE TR Magna has the most interior space and the best ride compared to this group of rivals. The big 2.6-litre four develops enough power and torque to make it relaxing to drive with competitive performance at the expense of higher fuel consumption. The Elite's equipment list is most comprehensive too. SUBARU LIBERTY 4D SEDAN (1989-1994) THE Liberty has a similar level of equipment but less interior space than the Telstar. The 2.2-litre flat four engine is economical and with 100kW has competitive performance although some people may find the odd engine beat annoying. The styling is looking dated but the ride is very good. MAZDA 626 4D SEDAN (1988-1994) FORD and Mazda's successful model sharing program continued with the Mazda 626. It has subtle differences from the Telstar apart from the visible exterior styling. The interior trim has a different fabric and the suspension is softer to enhance the ride, at the expense of cornering performance.
