The DOHC 16-valve 1.8-litre inline four-cylinder powering the Laser SR develops 92kW at 6000rpm and 163Nm at 4000rpm. The current generation of 1.8-litre engine featured a number of improvements over its predecessor, including a revised valve angle for better fuel efficiency. Official government fuel economy figures for the SR point to 9.0 L/100km over the city cycle and 6.4 L/100km on the highway.
