The auto features the so-called "steer shift" gear selection, which allows the driver to shift gears manually via "up" and "down" shift buttons on the steering wheel. To activate the steer shift, the gearlever must be set to D4 and the steer shift switch located on the dashboard set to the "on" position. The transmission's electronic control unit (ECU) is designed to retard the ignition during steer shift down-changes, for smooth operation. A gear position indicator lamp is contained in the instrument panel.
