Road TestCar reviews - Citroen - C2 - VTRCitroen modelsOverviewThe Citroen C2 has run its race in Australia, but will it be missed?15 Apr 2009 THE C2 is Citroen’s premium two-door light-car entrant that shares its platform and much of its running gear with the C3 and C3 Pluriel. While the C2 has just been taken off the local pricelists, we have had the opportunity to drive it for the first time locally in VTR guise. The C2 delivers all the promise of Euro chic, together with a sport-oriented styling and four-star safety with a clever interior layout. The AX GT in three- or five-door format had a 1390cc engine developing 58kW at 6200rpm and 115Nm at 4000-4000rpm and linked to a five-speed manual. Despite the tepid official output figure, the single-point injected 1.4 felt torquey yet still didn’t help make the 750kg AX any fireball. Well-equipped for the time, with standard aircon (at least towards the end of AX sales in 1992) power windows, alloy wheels and central locking, only 39 AX GTs show up on the official new cars registrations tally for 1991-1992, in part because of the stiff $22,990 price tag – a large ask for a tiny car launched in a recession. |
