Super TestCar reviews - Chrysler - 300C - SRT-8 sedanChrysler modelsOverviewChrysler injects some 1970s muscle-car performance enhancers into its 300C sedan21 Apr 2006 CHRYSLER’S striking 300C has already claimed a part of – if not quite conquered – the local luxury car scene, with its striking styling, impressive refinement and undeniable value for money. It really has put some good old American showmanship back into sub-$80K sedans. Now can the sizzling 317kW SRT-8 performance sedan do the same against its FPV GT and HSV Senator rivals? So it’s no shock that the Chrysler-by-Chrysler was completely ignored when it debuted to battle the high-riding Ford Fairlane (and rather less successful Holden HQ Statesman) in November 1971. Longer, gawkier and more gauche than its rivals, the simple leaf-sprung ‘Chrysler-by-Chrysler’ (as it was known) was nothing short of a land yacht, despite the promising-but-unfulfilling virtue of a huge 5.9-litre V8. Today they’re a rare sight indeed. |
