Road TestCar reviews - BMW - X3 - 3.0iBMW modelsOverviewX5's smaller sibling arrives Down Under at an only slightly smaller price28 Jan 2005 SLIGHTLY smaller than the X5, but only slightly less expensive, the BMW X3 aims at filling a tight gap between the 3 Series Touring wagon and the big, market-dominating SUV. But is there a credibility gap here too? Some interesting contradictions are evident in the X3 – it has more load space than the X5, for example – but the bottom line is whether or not it will scoop up potential buyers unwilling to stretch to the bigger vehicle. It’s a very capable SUV, both on and off-road, but the X3 seems to fit with slight discomfort into the BMW model line-up. A significantly reduced pricetag might have helped.
