A near invisible facelift ushered in new wheel and cabin trim, revised colours and a specification adjustment.
An over-speed warning device and cupholders became standard, as did dual airbags on the Advance and Altera LS.
A limited edition TF Challenge was released in September ’97 to fend off the big-selling VT Commodore and new Camry range, along with a Sports sedan model.
The latter featured a new Tiptronic-style shift pattern to the four-speed auto gearbox option, tauter suspension, a bodykit and racy interior trim.
The value-added Solara series was added in May ’98 and slotted above the base Executive models.
