The segment-busting Mercedes-Benz CLS coupe-style sedan arrived in Australia in third-generation guise in July 2018, boasting a completely new powertrain line-up, fresh styling and additional equipment.
Mercedes’ new 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine debuted under the bonnet of the CLS450, mated to the company’s EQ Boost mild-hybrid start/alternator system. The CLS also launched the 53 AMG nameplate, which arrived later in the year.
The new generation ushered in a fresh styling direction for the brand, which would soon be mimicked by the A-Class hatchback.
Active safety technology borrowed from the S-Class sedan was included on the new CLS, boosting its reputation as a tech-heavy vehicle.
