MAZDA introduced its Series II Mazda2 range in June ’05.
It boasted a stiffer body and mildly redesigned front-end featuring larger headlights and revised bumpers.
The ‘2’ Series II also offered five per cent better fuel economy from its 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, which now met tough Euro Step III emissions requirements.
Power and torque remained at 85kW and 141Nm respectively, but mechanical revisions improved torque delivery below 3000rpm, while an electronic throttle provided a more linear acceleration feel. The car also adopted electric power steering.
Automatic models added Mazda’s Activematic manual shift control function. The cabin remained largely unchanged except for some minor trim changes.
