Ford’s comprehensive BF Falcon upgrade provided FPV with a substantially better platform for the go-fast Blue Oval brand to work with.
The headline act was the first six-speed auto in an Australian-built car, courtesy of the German-made ZF transmission that sees duty in top-end BMWs, Audis and Jaguars.
The slick new tranny is mated to cleaner, more frugal V8 (GT) and turbocharged six (F6 Typhoon sedan and Tornado ute) engines that offer the same blistering performance.
Other changes included a vastly beefier brake package for the GT and revised front and rear-end styling to greater differentiate the F6 and V8 FPV models – both from each other and from their Ford-badged donor cars.
